Papaya Pineapple Banana Smoothies

I have honestly never eaten or seen a papaya before getting one recently from Bountiful Baskets.  If you haven’t seen a green papaya and it’s insides, here is what it looks like:

Since it was already pretty ripe and I haven’t had much time to cook lately, I did what we do with a lot of our fruit – make smoothies!  I used a papaya, some pineapple, a banana, 1 cup of milk, and ice cubes.  It was pretty tasty!

Pumpkin Smoothies

I think my favorite thing about fall is getting fresh pumpkins to bake with.  Our favorites are pumpkin pie, pumpkin gingerbread muffins, and pumpkin pancakes.  So, when fellow Bountiful Baskets participant posted a recipe for Pumpkin Smoothies, I looked it over, realized I had all the ingredients, and decided we needed to give it a try.

The recipe is from a picture that Oasis Advanced Wellness posted on their Facebook page about the Health Benefits of Pumpkin.

Healthy Pumpkin Smoothie

What you need:

1 frozen banana
1 cup vanilla almond milk
1 cup pumpkin, grated (I use pureed pumpkin)
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Freshly ground pumpkin seeds (optional)
Agave nectar, stevia, or raw honey to taste
Ice cubes, to help thicken, if needed

How to make it:

Combine all ingredients in a blender until creamy.

Strawberry Kiwi Smoothie

Yesterday, we had some kiwis a little too ripe for just eating, but hadn’t gone bad yet, so we made smoothies again.  I have strawberries in the freezer, so we used those, along with some frozen yogurt.  The girls were happy!

 

Strawberry Kiwi Smoothie

What you need:

1 cup vanilla frozen yogurt
4 kiwis
10 strawberries, approximately

How to make it:

Put all ingredients in blender, and puree until smooth.

Mango Banana Smoothie

We have a had time eating mangoes just on their own.  So, what do we do with fruit that we don’t get eaten?  Make smoothies!

 

Mango Banana Smoothie

What you need:

1 cup vanilla frozen yogurt
2 mangoes
1/2 banana

How to make it:

Put all ingredients in blender and puree until smooth.

Strawberry, Blueberry, and Banana Smoothies

Last night was one of those nights where I was lost on what to cook.  I had ideas, but needed to run to the store if I wanted to be able to make any of them.  K was whiny after school, and it’s probably better that we didn’t go because it has been raining all evening.  My girls were both getting hungry, so I decided to make them smoothies.  I still have plenty of strawberries and blueberries in my freezer, I bought them back in June/July when both were really cheap.

I added about 1 1/2 cups of frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, and 1 banana to my blender.  I poured in milk until it came up to about the 2 cup line on my blender.  If you use fresh berries instead of frozen, you will need to add in 1/2 cup of ice.

I then turned it on and pureed until well blended.  Both girls were very happy!
