Weekly Meal Plan: 1/8/12 – 1/14/12

9 Jan

I had wanted to get this posted yesterday, but didn’t get a chance.  I don’t have specific days for everything yet, but here is a list of what I will be making this week:

Broccoli Cheddar Cheese Soup and crescent rolls (this is what I made last night)

Copycat Fiesta Lime Chicken, rice, and refried black beans

Crock Pot Beef Stroganoff over egg noodles, salad

Greek night with a friend, I think we’re having Pastitsio and Dolmathes

Spinach Mushroom Quiche

Spinach-Bacon Macaroni and Cheese (recipe coming soon)

Pizza night, either homemade or carry-out from somewhere

Funny that you posted about meal planning today. I had just pulled out a notepad to do this for the next 2 weeks. I’ve never really done it much before, but Diana got me motivated this week so here we go! 🙂

On average, how much money do you think you save on your grocery bill by doing this?

When I make a meal plan, I do better about making a list and sticking to it, not getting the “extras” that magically find their way into my cart. It helps give me more focus too. I found a lot of times I would make a list of things we normally use, go to the store and get all of it, then throughout the week find I was missing 1 or 2 things from a recipe to make something, so I would have to take time to go back to the store and end up with even more things. Or I’d have a bunch of random food with no clear meals to make. I would easily spend over $150 a week and not have much to show for it. Now, I spend closer to $100 or less on food for the week, and we eat much better meals.

I spend anywhere between $80-$180! LOL But that also includes household stuff as well, not just food. But I know what you mean about the extras, and especially not being able to see a clear meal with the same stuff I always seem to buy. I’ll get the same general stuff and then sit here at 4pm thinking “What should I make?” So I’ve got my 2 weeks planned and we’ll see what the difference is. If anything, it will be nice not to have to stress about what I’m going to make!
